CW3: ROTTERDAM

Today was the third cultural wednesday on the HKU. We went to Rotterdam to visit the Boijmans Museum and an exhibition by Joep van Lieshout.

The Museum Boijmans van Beuningen is one of the better known museums in the Netherlands. They currently have an exhibition by Olafur Eliasson named “Notion Motion”. It’s a very interesting play between waves and light projection. Watch the video and some photos I made below:

Some photos of their own collection.

After the Boijmans Museum we visited a wharf in the harbour area of Rotterdam. An exhibition by Joep van Lieshout, Atelier van Lieshout, was held in an old warehouse, now called the Onderzeebootloods. Joep has a sick, alcoholic mind I guess, which makes his art quite interesting.

Nice weather, much to see, so it was a good day. Up to the next wednesday!

CW2: KINETIC LINE

This time all the students had to make a kinetic line of 5 metres, which were all attached to eachother. The result was a kinetic line through the whole school. My part did work when we tested it, but on the film it failed. Except for that it was a nice day!

CW1: BARRIER

The first cultural wednesday on the HKU! We were divided into several groups and each group had to make their own barrier or block in- or outside school. We worked together with anonther group so we made two barriers. For the first barrier we chose to hang ‘decoration’ in front of the entrence. Normally people smoke their sigs in front of the school. But after our project was finished, nobody chose to stand behind it. Only when we asked.
After that we made a barrier of people to block the entrance of the school. Here are some pics.

DEWOLFF IN HARDERWIJK

Dutch band DeWolff is coming to Estrado, Harderwijk. After several performances in Dutch venues, and their breakthrough on the Pinkpop festival, they will now give it away on saterday the 9th of October. The show starts at 20:30. Tickets are 8 euros in advance and 10 euros at the door.

Bio from their website:
DeWolff is a three-headed rockmonster that crawled right out of the Mississippimud to shake, rattle and roll the world with some raw, psychedelic sixtiesbluesrock. Armed with a screaming Hammond-organ, a muddy, howling guitar, thunderous drums and a soulful voice, these three Wolf men take you back to those wonderful 60’s and 70’s, when bands like Led Zeppelin, Cream, Pink Floyd and Deep Purple ruled the world of rock ‘n’ roll.

Check out this video, DeWolff playing Silver Love Machine on Pinkpop.

PANOPTICONS

This is funny, a project from two students of the HKU (my school). From their website:

panoptICONS addresses the fact that you are constantly being watched by surveillance cameras in city centres. The surveillance camera seems to have become a real pest that feeds on our privacy. To represent this, camera birds, city birds with cameras instead of heads, were placed throughout the city centre of Utrecht where they feed on our presence. In addition, a camera bird in captivity was displayed to show the feeding process and to make the everyday breach of our privacy more personal and tangible.
